Starting from childhood, nurses labelled me as “slow” and I didn’t say my first word until I was 18 months old (but don’t worry, I’ve made up for that now!).
I also didn’t even start learn to read until I was six years old – it turns out I am dyslexic, but that went undiagnosed until my university years. As you can imagine, growing up, I hated learning (although I managed good grades), I felt like I never fit in and I was consumed by my self-loathing and mental health demons. The thing that helped me turn it around were personal development books that my father encouraged me to read. Titles like ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’ by Stephen Covey and ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne, changed my life forever.
I can tell you without a doubt that personal development books changed my life, and I know they will change yours too. While there is no quick fix for overcoming hurdles in life, reading is one of the major tools that helped turn my life around, and that’s why I started the Success Box Book Club.
When you invest in your own education through reading, you will gain a deeper level of knowledge and understanding than any university can ever teach you because it can change your mindset, which then changes your outlook and perceptions of the world. That new outlook helped me on my road to recovery and that is the transformation I strive to bring to every member who joins me on this journey of transformation.
And mind you, you don’t have to start from a negative foundation in order to benefit from personal development- that’s the beauty of it! Everyone, no matter where they come from or where they find themselves in their personal journey, will benefit from the accountability, insights, revelation and connection that comes from a community like the one we are creating together.
I challenge you to step into our Book Club and see if you don’t leave better for it!
